Japanese Teen’s Body Discovered Beneath Niagara Falls

A 20-year-old Japanese student who was swept over Niagara Falls last Sunday has been identified as the body that was pulled from the Niagara River, according to Niagara Parks Police.

The body was discovered by an employee at the Cave of the Winds, a popular tourist attraction on the American side of the falls, around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Police reported that the woman, identified as Ayano Tokumasu by her classmates at the Hansa Language Centre in Toronto, was visiting the Canadian side when she climbed over a railing along the river and fell into the water near the brink of the falls. The strong current carried her over the falls.

Her body was transported to a hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., for an autopsy and identification.
