Among the finest art museums I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, this establishment boasts an array of modern art exhibits that span diverse genres. From captivating photography exhibitions capturing contemporary moments to iconic works by artists like Andy Warhol, the museum offers an insightful journey into the world of art, particularly that of the 1960s.
An exceptional highlight is the art showcased on the first floor, accessible for free without admission. This includes a notable mural by the renowned Diego Rivera, adding a vibrant and culturally rich touch to the museum’s offerings.

Guided by my professor’s recommendation, I ventured to the museum to behold the remarkable Diego Rivera mural, and I must say, it left me utterly amazed. Alongside my boyfriend, we immersed ourselves in the captivating displays and exhibits. He particularly relished the cozy bean bags complemented by the expansive screen. For me, it was a rewarding cultural escapade, and I found immense pleasure in being part of the expansive communal setting. All in all, my visit to the MOMA was an immensely enjoyable experience.

Explored the initial two floors, open for free visits! Discovered incredible artworks, including the magnificent two-story mural by Diego Rivera. Also, took the opportunity to explore the nearby attractions: Yerba Buena Gardens and the Children’s Creativity Museum.

I attended the Diego Rivera exhibition and I highly recommend it. I visited on the first Thursday, which is the free day. I secured my tickets about a week and a half in advance. It was truly amazing. I was deeply impressed with the curation of the exhibitions, and the mariachi performance in front of the Pan American Unity mural was an incredibly beautiful experience.

The museum boasts an impressive collection of art, and even children appreciate the ambiance and the opportunity to explore the various floors. The ongoing exhibition featuring Diego Rivera’s America particularly captures the attention of kids. However, it’s worth noting that the museum can get quite warm inside.

My visit focused solely on Diego Rivera’s impressive fresco, and it did not disappoint. Rivera undertook this commission during the Golden Gate International Expo on Treasure Island in 1940, and the artwork was eventually completed after the Expo concluded. The monumental work consists of 10 panels, standing at 22 feet tall and stretching 75 feet wide. These panels were meticulously transferred from the City College of San Francisco to the SF MoMA.
For those interested, the museum offers free family days as well. It’s advisable to consult their calendar to explore other highlighted artists and events.

The admission fee didn’t seem justified for the experience. My visit to SFMOMA was dominated by spacious rooms featuring large abstract art pieces, as depicted in the images. There was a notable Diego Rivera exhibition during my visit, and the highlights were the informative components explaining the process of creating mural art. Interestingly, more captivating artwork can be found in the free Mission District murals.
