Climbing those stairs will give your thighs a workout, but the payoff is absolutely worth it – the view is simply stunning! The place is steeped in history and offers breathtaking vistas. If you’re visiting in the summer, I highly recommend bringing along some water to stay hydrated. The staff members were all incredibly friendly, and here’s an added bonus: they are pet-friendly too! You can bring your dogs along, although they can’t go inside the lighthouse itself.

Visiting the lighthouse was truly a fantastic experience for us. We transformed it into a day trip and prepared a packed lunch for our family. While one of my children is too young to climb the lighthouse stairs, there’s no shortage of enjoyable things to do. At the base of the lighthouse, there’s an engaging playground on the grounds that kept our little one entertained. We decided to go a bit later in the morning, and as lunchtime rolled around, the crowds had diminished, giving our kids plenty of room to run around and explore. The environment is incredibly family-friendly, making it a perfect outing for all ages.

This place is really cool and offers much more than just the lighthouse climb. They have small museums and exhibits to explore, along with an adorable gift shop where you can find reasonably priced souvenirs. The staff members were all incredibly friendly and ready to assist. The ascent wasn’t too challenging, and they’ve conveniently placed landings after each flight of stairs, allowing you to take breaks if needed. The view from the top is stunning! Just be mindful of wasps and other insects while you’re up there.

The lighthouse and its exhibits are impeccably maintained and stunning. Reaching the top and enjoying the panoramic views of St. Augustine and the Atlantic Ocean is truly rewarding. I would strongly recommend visiting this location, even if you choose not to climb the lighthouse steps, as there’s an abundance of history to absorb. There’s even a small playground for the kids to enjoy!

A must-visit when in St. Augustine, Florida. The lighthouse is exceptionally well-maintained, as is the entire property. There’s an array of sights to explore. They also have a snack shack on-site with very affordable prices, including options for beer, wine, and refreshing beverages.

After gazing at this lighthouse for over 30 years, I finally decided to pay a visit, and boy, was it worth it! The lighthouse itself is just the beginning – there are numerous museum exhibits that are truly captivating. They cover a wide range of subjects, including military history and even an artifact preservation lab.
Before embarking on the lighthouse climb, we explored each of the surrounding buildings, and it added a new layer of appreciation. There’s also a charming shop called the Tin Pickle where you can find drinks (including beer) and more. The watermelon water was a delightful refresher on a hot summer day!
Now, onto the lighthouse experience itself. I must admit, around step 14 or 15, I began to question my life choices and wondered if I would make it to the top. Only 200+ more steps to go! Midway, I had to take a breather, and thankfully, benches were strategically placed for such moments. Eventually, I pushed through, and the view from the top was absolutely worth it – simply breathtaking! A storm was rolling in, the wind was strong, and I couldn’t stop smiling.

Exploring this piece of history was a truly captivating experience! We delved deep into the lighthouse’s past and uncovered a wealth of fascinating stories. A word of advice: be prepared for a climb! With over 200 stairs to conquer, the ascent to the top might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you’re not a fan of staircases. But if you’re up for it, the journey is well worth the reward!
